What Is Ippatsu and What Cancels It
Sep 23, 2026 · 3 min read

Ippatsu ("one shot") is a 1-han bonus if you win -- via Ron or Tsumo -- within ONE full go-around after declaring riichi, with no interruption in between.
What Cancels Ippatsu
- Any player (including yourself) calls Pon, Chi, or Kan before your next turn comes around.
- A full go-around completes without you winning -- the ippatsu window is gone, even though you're still in riichi.
Because the requirement is quite strict (genuinely zero interruption), Ippatsu is treated as an extra "luck" bonus on top of riichi, not something you can plan for.
Ippatsu often shows up alongside Ura Dora since both are riichi-condition bonuses -- this combo is why riichi hands sometimes end up far pricier than expected.
