Sanshoku Doujun Yaku: The Same Sequence Across Three Suits

Illustration for Sanshoku Doujun Yaku: The Same Sequence Across Three Suits

Sanshoku Doujun ("three colors, same sequence") forms when you have the SAME numeric sequence across all three suits -- for example 4-5-6 in Characters, 4-5-6 in Circles, and 4-5-6 in Bamboo at once.

Value and Spotting the Opportunity

It's worth 2 han closed, 1 han open. Sanshoku opportunities often show up unplanned -- once you already have the same sequence in two different suits, start watching whether the third suit could work too.

The Difference From Sanshoku Doukou

There's also a Sanshoku Doukou variant -- matching TRIPLETS (not sequences) across all three suits, e.g. a triplet of 5s in Characters, Circles, and Bamboo. That's a separate yaku worth 2 han, rarer since it needs three matching-number triplets.

An example Sanshoku Doujun hand -- the 4-5-6 sequence appears in Characters, Circles, and Bamboo all at once.

Sanshoku Doujun pairs well with Tanyao (if the number range is 2-8) for a fast, decently-valued hand.
