Daisangen Yakuman: All Three Dragon Triplets

Illustration for Daisangen Yakuman: All Three Dragon Triplets

Daisangen ("big three dragons") forms when you have a triplet (or kan) of ALL THREE Dragons at once: White, Green, and Red.

Why It's Relatively More Realistic

Compared to other yakuman like Kokushi Musou or Suuankou, Daisangen is relatively more realistic to chase because it can be formed through open Pon calls -- you don't need a closed hand at all. Once you have 2 Dragon triplets, many players will start deliberately chasing the third.

A Warning: Shousangen Is Not a Yakuman

There's a "small" version, Shousangen (two Dragon triplets + a pair of the third Dragon as the pair) -- this is NOT a yakuman, it's only worth a regular 2 han. Don't mix the two up.

An example Daisangen hand -- all three Dragon triplets (Haku, Hatsu, Chun) at once, plus one sequence and a pair.

Since there are only 3 Dragons with 4 copies each, once you start Pon-ing Dragon triplets, opponents usually get wary fast and start holding onto the remaining Dragon tiles.
