Illustration for Suuankou Yakuman: Four Closed Triplets

Suuankou ("four concealed triplets") forms when ALL 4 sets in your hand are closed triplets. It's one of the most talked-about yakuman because of a rare variant worth double.

Strict Ron vs Tsumo Rules

Unlike Sanankou, for Suuankou the FOURTH triplet must genuinely be completed via Tsumo (self-draw) to count as fully closed -- if it's completed via Ron on a pair wait (tanki), it's still valid but becomes the "Suuankou Tanki" variant.

Suuankou Tanki: A Double Yakuman

Suuankou Tanki -- Suuankou completed via Ron on a tanki (pair) wait -- is scored as a Double Yakuman under many rule sets, equivalent to 26 han, one of the highest scores possible in a single hand.

An example Suuankou hand -- all four sets are closed triplets, plus a pair.

Because it needs four closed triplets, your hand essentially has to stay fully closed from the start -- a single Pon instantly kills your Suuankou chances.
