Honitsu Yaku: One Suit Plus Honor Tiles
Sep 22, 2026 · 4 min read

Honitsu ("half-flush") means your entire hand comes from just ONE suit (Characters, Circles, or Bamboo -- pick one) PLUS as many honor tiles (Winds/Dragons) as you like.
Value and Strategy
Honitsu is worth 3 han closed, 2 han open -- a high-value yaku that's still realistic to chase from the mid-game onward, once you notice your hand leaning toward one suit.
Honitsu vs Chinitsu
The difference is simple: Honitsu ALLOWS honor tiles mixed in, Chinitsu does NOT -- it has to be a pure single suit with no honors at all. That's why Chinitsu is worth much more (6 han closed) than Honitsu.

An example Honitsu hand -- entirely from the Circles suit, plus one honor-tile triplet (East Wind).
Honitsu is often paired with Toitoi or Yakuhai (from a Dragon/Wind triplet) for a very high-value hand.
Read about Chinitsu too, the purer version.
